Harry and Sue Rusche Scholarship Fund

rusche placeholder

The Department of English invites applications from rising seniors for the 2026 Harry and Sue Rusche Scholarship. The award will be offered to an accomplished student majoring in Emory’s Department of English. Applicants should submit a copy of their transcript (unofficial is fine) and a statement of approximately 250 words detailing their goals and achievements as an English or English/Creative Writing major.

This endowed scholarship was created by one of Professor Rusche’s students and has received donations from the Rusches and many others in honor of Professor Rusche’s 54 years of celebrated teaching and mentoring at Emory.

The amount of the scholarship varies, according to current market conditions, but we anticipate offering 1-2 scholarships this year of approximately $5000 each. In accordance with the Rusches’ wishes, this money can be used for tuition, room and board, books, or other expenses associated with studying at Emory.

Applications should be submitted by 4 p.m., April 15, 2026, to the English Department’s Undergraduate Program Coordinator Ivana Salmikova (ivana.salmikova@emory.edu). Questions should be directed to Professor Sheila Cavanagh (engstc@emory.edu). We look forward to receiving applications for this award.
