The Johnston Fellowship for Travel and Research
Dr. Harold Johnston is a 1941 graduate of Emory College who received his A.B. degree in both chemistry and English. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry and physics from the California Institute of Technology, and subsequently taught chemistry at Stanford, Caltech, and the University of California at Berkeley, where he became professor emeritus in 1991. His generous bequest, named the Harold T. and Mary E. Johnston English Endowment will annually support two fellowships, each in the amount of $1000.
The JFTR Fellowship is an unrestricted grant, designed to help the recipient defray the cost of domestic or foreign travel connected with research on a special project or honors thesis, and might normally be used during the summer or fall following the junior year. The amount of the grant can also be supplemented by funds from other sources, e.g. ICIS (the Institute for Comparative Studies) and may be used in conjunction with Emory study-abroad programs. The payment of the Johnson Fellowship will take the form of reimbursement of expenses already incurred, for which receipts will be necessary.
