Erwin RosinbergAssociate Teaching Professor

Biography

Erwin Rosinberg specializes in modern British literature with a particular interest in studies of the novel. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2009.

His current book project, A Further Conjunction: The Couple and Its Worlds in Modern British Fiction, examines how the work of Thomas Hardy, D. H. Lawrence, Virginia Woolf, and E. M. Forster reconceives the figure of the couple, traditionally presumed to be both heterosexual and conjugal, as an intimate and necessarily unstable conjunction of worldviews.

He is particularly interested in narrative modes within fiction that allow us to read against the disciplinary structures of plot--in particular, the lyrical, the utopian, the momentary, and the idyllic. A portion of this work, on Lawrence's Women in Love, has appeared in Modern Fiction Studies, and he has contributed to the volume The Pocket Instructor: Literature.

He is also researching a project on the role of natural conservation in modern and contemporary British literature, showing how modernism's assumed immersion in urban spaces thrives on a crucial dialectic with spaces of wildness and retreat.
