Patrick HeraldPostdoctoral Fellow

Patrick Herald earned his PhD at the University of Kentucky, where he completed a dissertation on recent British and Postcolonial fiction.

In his research, Herald broadly focuses on the role of expert knowledge: how it is codified in disciplines, what the implications of specialist knowledge used by decision-makers but beyond the reach of laypersons are, and how recent authors deploy it in their fiction and public personae; his current project examines how novelists including Ian McEwan, Zadie Smith, and Abdulrazak Gurnah connect to these ideas.

The recipient of multiple teaching awards, Herald has taught a range of courses from first-year writing to contemporary fiction. He is especially focused on student engagement with multiple perspectives and on fostering the ability to determine credibility and reliability (particularly online).
