Vani Kannan Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Writing Across Emory

Vani Kannan completed her PhD in Composition and Cultural Rhetoric with a certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies at Syracuse University (2018). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2023, she served as Assistant Professor of English and director of Writing across the Curriculum at Lehman College, CUNY. Her teaching and writing interests include community literacies, place- and land-based writing pedagogies, Asian/American rhetorics, and multimodal/multigenre composition. Her recent work appears in Women’s Studies Quarterly, constellations: a cultural rhetorics publishing space, Journal of Multimodal Rhetorics, Present Tense: A Journal of Rhetoric in Society, Writers: Craft & Context, and Radical Teacher.
