Tesla CarianiVisiting Assistant Professor


Tesla Cariani is a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Emory University. Tesla received a PhD in English as well as a graduate certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Emory. Encompassing questions of aesthetics, affect, and political activism, Tesla’s teaching and research interests include 20th and 21st century American literature, visual culture studies, and digital/public humanities. Tesla’s dissertation, Between Visibility and Violence: Framing Queer and Trans Embodiment, focuses on visual representations of gender and sexuality in literature, comics, photography, film, and performance art. Tesla’s work has been published in Parallax, PMLA, and is forthcoming in The LGBTQ Comics Studies ReaderTesla is currently co-curating an exhibit on LGBTQ+ comics that will be displayed in Emory’s Woodruff Library.
